It’s that time of the year when the Sun travels against the backdrop of Scorpio, and our awareness deepens, our emotions intensify, and we peer into the shadows and edges. Of course, Samhain, Hallow’een and el Día de los Muertos all fall in this season, when we embrace the darker side of life and make friends with death and decay. There’s an intensity here as we skate close to the edges of life, beyond where humans have control or power.
The sensitivity of Scorpio is highly armoured, and often shrouded in layers of mystery that hide their vulnerability. With laser-like focus and X-ray ability to read what is hidden, this energy loves to delve deep, though perceptions can become skewed if you fall too far down the scorpion’s hole. Not one to shy away from the shadows, Scorpio has a gift for accepting the light and dark in the world as they know the underbelly well.
Scorpio is the night sign of Mars, and I always think of warriors in the dark; spies, assassins and ninjas who use the cover of night to wield their sharp blades. With Mars currently in Cancer there’s a drive to protect clan or homeland, so take care not to burn bridges or cause unnecessary harm and make sure you’re fighting for what truly belongs to you. Draw on the integrity of Scorpio, as it knows its power and strength can also become its downfall when wielded for personal gain alone.
Mars opposite Pluto
Always a dive into the deep, Scorpio season is more compelling this year as the Sun looks to Mars, wading moodily through the choppy waters of Cancer. The combination gives the Scorpion extra sensitivity, a thicker coat of armour and more vigilant protection. And if that’s not enough intensity for you, Mars is currently moving towards a face-off with our underworld lord, Pluto which becomes exact on Nov 3. Feeling that pressure yet? It’s the stuff diamonds are made of.
What may be appearing personally for you is a sense of lacklustre or powerlessness, as the god of war and assertion meets the god of the dead, power and wealth. Larger systems or higher authorities are battling it out, as Pluto takes one last aim at outdated Capricornian structures and traditions as it leaves Capricorn on Nov 20 until 2254 (yup, not for 230 more years).
Mars’ will soon turn retrograde, making this only the first battle between these two, with further confrontations in Jan and April 2025. However, Pluto will have moved to the idealistic realms of Aquarius by then, so expect this battle to have similar themes, yet play out against a different backdrop.
Like a boil being lanced, the putrescence flows strong initially. It’s smelly and dirty but its existence means healing is happening below the surface. Try to keep that bigger picture in mind and use this time to scrub out whatever toxins or detritus is hiding in the corners of your Capricorn house. Speaking up and pushing back are possible, with honesty, courage and all your reserves of power, so resource yourself well.
New Moon in Scorpio
1 November brings a New Moon in Scorpio, and while it’s nice to not have an eclipse, this one has troubles of its own. Scorpio is not comfortable for the Moon, as its drive for comfort and safety aren’t easily met in its deep, pressured waters. Nor is Mars at home in Cancer either, as the warrior struggles to find its fit in Cancer’s soft, nurturing style. So, while they are in each other’s signs, and able to easily see each other, they won’t be bringing out the best in each other. The Moon in Scorpio can brood and withdraw, while Mars in Cancer focuses on the past and emotionally reacts to any perceived slight. Think of two moody teenagers bonding over their anger at the world! Add in that this New Moon is happening under the pressure of Mars opposing Pluto and you’ve got emotionally inflammable energy right as Mercury’s rational logic is lost in the haze of a trine to Neptune.

Mars into Leo
November 4 brings a brighter tone when Mars slow-marches into Leo, ready to retreat as it retrogrades on December 9. Mars in Leo draws our attention to our light and is more likely to be the centre of attention than hiding away in the Cancerian crevices. This Mars is fuelled by boldness, passion and inspiration, so pour energy into creative and playful activities that are all about the heart. Mars in Leo brings ALL the sass with a bold, feisty energy and a healthy stubborn streak. It’s not going to all roses during Scorpio season, as the creature of night looks to a sign all about bright light, so you may need to manage withdrawal and centredness together during this time.
Other dates to watch in Scorpio Season
28 October – Mars trine Neptune brings energised action towards fulfilling visions, but confusion can easily reign here. With Venus squaring Saturn that same day, pouring energy into creative pursuits can feel challenging but following your inspiration can yield long-term proficiency.
3 November – Mercury moving into Sagittarius (until 9 Jan) invites big-picture thinking and asks for us to marry faith with logic. Mercury will struggle with the smaller details during its extended stay here, so close out the year with projects or communications that encourage expansion thinking and expect mental adventures. It’s not a time for detailed planning or focus on logic, especially during the retrograde in Sagittarius season.
4 November – Venus opposite Jupiter is my pick of the month, as adventurous Venus in Sagittarius gets an inspiring boost from Jupiter. Perfect day for networking as people’s minds are open and keen to engage with others. There is a chance of distraction here, or bring sold fools gold, but as long as keep your feet on the ground and do your research, this day brings much to be grateful for.
5 November – Sun trine Saturn brings a steadying influence and focuses on the strategic and long-term. It’s a day to bring reason to bear if emotions have been high, without losing compassion.
12 November – Venus into Capricorn (until 7 Dec) seeks solidity in relationships, forming enduring bonds that honour tradition. This Venus won’t shy away from hard work, so use the next 4 weeks to put some elbow grease into your connections that need some work on boundaries and responsibilities. This Venus has a classic, timeless style, preferring less than more, so you find yourself spending that little extra to acquire special pieces that will last a lifetime.
16 November – the Taurus Full Moon is a slice of serenity in the emotional turmoil, spend the day in nature, immersing in sensual pleasures, or anything that helps bring you into your body and its connection to the present moment.
17 November – Sun opposite Uranus brings a shake-up and can loosen you from any deep holes you may find yourself in. If you’re feeling restless, bring in a little excitement but don’t cut everything out just to scratch that itch!
20 November – Pluto is back into Aquarius and full steam ahead here until 2043. Capricorn, you get that sigh of relief now, while Aquarians and the other fixed signs need to prepare for themes of unearthing, rebirthing and empowerment to enter their lives. Expect an information revolution as conversations around technology and AI interact with shifts in the ethical and moral fabric of society. I’m also hopeful for a breakdown of barriers so we can return to our common humanity.
