After a recent move, I’m in the painstaking process of unpacking and finding the right place for my possessions in a new environment. It’s exciting to create beauty in a new place yet it’s also such a Virgoan game of discerning what goes with what and where. I’ve never been more grateful for Virgo season to help create order out of this chaos of boxes I have lived in for months. May it bring calm stability to your life in these uncertain times.
Ruled by Mercury, Virgo has its communicative and logical gifts but as it’s also Mercury’s night sign, those gifts are introspective and contained. Virgo will slowly take information and digest it, then disseminate it carefully to those who need to know. Not one to mince words, Virgo is all about minimalism and unpretentiousness. Virgo’s vision is incredibly detailed, so leaning into detail-focused work is a perfect use of this energy, from planning to embroidery, use the house it’s in to do whatever works for you.
The season starts with ruler Mercury retrograde, so Virgo’s introspection is initially turned to high. Expect mishaps and miscommunications; your inner critic may be louder than usual. It’s also an opportunity to take things off the backburner or return to tidy up something forgotten or neglected.
This Virgo season also bridges the recent Jupiter square Saturn, using its diagnostic discernment to create practical solutions to problems you’ve wrestled with for the last month. Where you’re feeling the limiting pinch to growth, the solar perspective in Virgo can help you design and apply more detailed schemes towards longer-term success. The exact dates to use this fulcrum to leverage success are detailed below.

A few weeks later we have the first eclipse across the Virgo-Pisces axis since early 2017, with the Full Moon in Pisces on September 18 being a lunar eclipse. So expect to feel the first tingling of karmic eclipse shifts moving into a different area of your life.
Other dates to watch
29 August – Venus opposite Neptune, Mercury stationing direct and Venus into Libra
An incredibly creative day, the morning energy will differ greatly from the evening. As Mercury seems to still it’s motion to go direct at the same time Venus opposes dreamy Neptune, energy may come to a standstill. If you feel active, apply it liberally to imaginative and creative pursuits. For those needing rest, your prescription is a morning lie in or time spent in quiet contemplation.
By evening Venus has moved away from Neptune’s fog into her high-minded domain of Libra for a little over 3 week stay. The longing to connect is amplified with Libra luxuriating in the pleasures of social connections after all her humble, hardworking efforts in Virgo. Initially, as Venus applies to the South Node, this may seem harder to access than you thought, but after 4 September create loving one on one time and the beauty of being with those who know and love you. My favourite day this whole month is 15 September when Venus trines Jupiter, with the Moon also trining from Aquarius. It’s a great opportunity to create or tend to partnerships you hope to grow. It’s also an opportune day for all things love and peace, so make big plans for what could be possible.
5 September – Mars into Cancer
Heads up all those with Aries and Scorpio risings, or those in Mars profection years. As fiery Mars enters the emotional waters of Cancer and slows down to retrograde in December, expect turbulence and confusion. Mars will retrograde from Leo into Cancer in early January, spending an extra three months in this area of your chart. Themes of energetic protection and emotional resilience are likely, so listen to the messages over the next eight weeks and do what you can to prepare for the choppy waters in early 2025. A little spray in the face won’t hurt but you want to have your life vest handy if the waves rise higher.
8-12 September – Sun opposite Saturn and square Jupiter
As the Sun travels between these planets, it’s offering it’s solar guidance on a peaceful solution to the tension these two have been creating. As it meets Saturn’s somber energy first, the message of slowing and containing can be brought to Jupiter who is itching to grow. Saturn in Pisces offers deep, patience wisdoms that can bring a great context to the small, logical facts Jupiter is busy collecting.
18 – 21 September is when Mercury moves through the same area and you can expect a flurry of messages or insightful ideas to as you negotiate Saturn hurdles to Jupiter expansion.
20 – 22 September – The Sun dances with the Heavyweights
The Sun in Virgo closes out with quite the rollercoaster as it interacts with all the outer planets within a few days. First an exciting trine to Uranus on 20 September may see you trying something new or seeing yourself in a new light. It can also bring a night of sleeplessness, as your mind buzzes with new possibilities so keep a journal by the bed. The next day, the Sun is dampened by an opposition Neptune so give into the dreaminess and allow yourself to float… you never know what insights may bubble to the surface. Finally, a trine to Pluto, newly arrived back in Capricorn, may bring some final drama or pressure to the surface to play out as we all get the last lesson from Pluto in this area of our lives.
