Planetary days – Mondays and the Moon

You’ve heard me talking about planetary days and hours in astrological magic, and I often have questions about it. So it thought to spend the week ahead exploring the ruler of each day and how we can work more consciously with its energy to bring balance and fine-tune our lives.

Normally, it’s hard to do in our Monday to Friday 9 to 5 routine. However, these unusual times do offer new opportunities, and living in harmony with the planets could be a better way to live. In traditional astrology, we work with the 7 planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn) which fits hand in glove with the 7 days of the week. Planetary days start at sunrise, and the planet ruling the hour at sunrise has its energy carried with the sun throughout the day. Mondays are ruled by the Moon and her gentle reflective energy is carried through the day. If you’d like the technical details, Skyscript has good information here and I use Lunarium for planetary hour calculations.

Mondayitis – it’s a real thing! Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to drag yourself out off to work on a Monday? Or why there are so many songs about the Monday blues, or Mondays and rain? The sensitive, feminine Moon calls us to be with our inner lives, our feelings and emotions. It’s a perfect doona day, really! We are meant to feel, it’s part of the joy of being human, but those subconscious lives in us get stuffed under as we bundle into peak hour and head for a day of nose-to-the-grindstone. Tune in deep, listen to your soul, what needs release? Perhaps listening to old albums, journaling or watching soulful movies can allow buried feelings to pass out of us.

The Moon rules the night, so she calls for comfort, quiet and rest. Mondays are perfect for a weekly cook up, preparing nutritious food for the week ahead. You may like to catch up on sleep or spend quiet time dreaming and allowing your mind to wander. Rest creates the fertile soil our creative lives need for ideas and imagination to grow. It also recharges us so we’re ready for the busy energy that Mars-ruled Tuesdays can bring.

The Moon moves in phases so some Mondays may be more active than others, depending what sign the Moon is in. Gentle yoga, walks in nature and baking days are all good uses of a more energetic Moon day. If you do have to work, try to schedule creative tasks and ease yourself into the week by clearing your calendar of meetings, appointments or interviews. Mondays are also great for tasks that have a monthly timing.

The Moon is also instinctive and intuitive, as our sensitivities are heightened under her silvery beams. You could try tuning into your intuition today by allocating time for meditation, contemplation or actively sensing your mood within. Speak to your intuition, or play games to wake it up. I like to try to feel which sign the Moon is in on a Monday by watching the world around me, or you can use your intuition to sense who is calling or messaging before you pick up your phone. It takes practise to wake your Moon side up, so keep trying and as you let it know you’re ready to listen now this inner life will bud to life.

Finally, a little practical magic can be woven into your wardrobe – Mondays call for silver, white or grey. Perhaps just accessorising with a scarf or jewellery, or creating a whole outfit, try playing around with these colours and see how you feel when you wear them.

  1. I have read many types of Articles and I have learned many types of things but this one was like more of a less complex way to explain things to people that are first learning magic that I have in my classes so thank you very much
