Planetary Days – Thursdays and Jupiter

You’ve heard me talking about planetary days and hours in astrological magic, and quite a few of you have had questions about it. So I thought to spend the week ahead exploring the ruler of each day and how we can work more consciously with its energy to have more flow in our lives.

Normally, it’s hard to do in our Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 routine. However these unusual times encourage the start of new times, and working in concert with the planets could be a better way to live. In traditional astrology, the planetary days start at sunrise, and the planet ruling the hour at sunrise has its energy carried with the sun throughout the day. So on Thursdays Jupiter rules the hour at sunrise, and his expansive, optimistic nature is carried through the day.

Ever wondered why suddenly we get excited for the weekend on a Thursday? That’s the exuberance of this planet coming into play. Jupiter and Thor are the same (hence Thor’sday), both being the gods of Thunder, Lightning and Storms. Jupiter was the King of the Gods, and he exuded vitality, power and strength, which are the gifts we can tap into on Thursdays. Jupiter creates bigger perspectives, and I often use it for thinking big, or visioning future possibilities – in any area of my life. Perhaps you want to take your business to another level, or move your relationship in a new direction … try Jupiter’s day for these type of meetings or conversations. It also adds a dash of luck and confidence, so if you’re feeling blocked and wish to move past a hurdle, approach it on a Thursday for Jupiter’s generous help!

Thursdays are an expansive day, so try tacking tasks where growth is needed. Anything from a work project, to expanding your family, even to planting your garden, all can benefit from a growth mindset, optimistic outlook and extra oomph in energy.

Jupiter is the inspiring teacher, the hierophant who shares from higher wisdom. I love to use Thursdays for teaching subjects that expand the mind, or have spiritual themes as Jupiter’s energy encourages us to keep our minds open to new thought systems or philosophies.

There can also be a passion or zeal about Jupiter, encouraging us to take leaps of faith or trust in the abundance around to support us. If you find you need to inspire others, or to find someone who inspires you, try using Thursdays to feel the wind beneath your wings. Active spiritual practices would also work under Jupiter’s energy, such as discussion groups, journaling, rituals or connecting with spiritual teachers or mentors.

The colours of Jupiter are royal (of course!) blue and yellow, so try wearing either or both to draw his abundant and life giving energy into your world. And for all the benefic energy he offers, here is a word of warning with Jupiter – be careful what you wish for. Make sure you really want what you ask for, as he can give it in spades.

  1. Interesting posts. I have read quite a lot about planetary days and it seems like there’s little agreement on ‘lucky’ colors for Thursday especially. Intuitively yellow shades seems right but then that’s the same as Sunday’s lucky color…

    1. Yes, there are differences and it depends on which source you use. I choose to take the colours from the Picatrix, the ancient text on astrological magic, which says the colours for Jupiter are Royal Blue, White and Yellow.
